Choosing plants for your ponds
In order to do the layout of your garden pond, it is necessary to take into account the variety of plants according to their adult size and the recommended location. For example in a small basin, it is recommended to plant plants in adult sizes smaller than those used in a pond.
Regarding the density of plants either in your pool or pond it should generally not exceed 30% of the water surface covered by plants to prevent algae growth. It must also involve sufficient oxygenating plants or underwater to fight the formation of algae.
We recommend placing the plants in the water in four major categories of location :
- Shoreline Plants that should not be placed in the middle of the water and should not be covered by water, the immersion depth is given as an indication and can evolve 0-10 cm depending on the height of the adult plant.
- Submerged plants with an immersion depth varies according to the characteristics of the plant, they are usually planted in a water depth of 10 cm to 40 cm, see beyond the next level for an adult plant.
- Underwater plantsou amphibian that can also position in the category of plants called submerged or oxygenating plants that are permanently covered with water.
- Floating plants which can be positioned anywhere on the water, such as Eichornia Crassipes, Pistia, or the Water Lily Water Lily which are floating-leaved plants.
